The owner of Villa Basque Deli, Pete Coscarat, was 17 years old when he emmigrated to the United States from the village of Azpilcueta in northern Spain. Coscarat became a shepherd in northeastern Nevada and started his own Basque restaurant in Battle Mountain in 1984. Since then, this restaurant has moved to Carson City and is known for its chorizo. With gingham tablecloths and decorative models of chorizos and jamon hanging in the corner, Villa Basque has a very authentic Spanish atmosphere. At Villa Basque the chorizo, bottles of Spanish sauces, T-shirts and hats are also available for purchase.
