Open since 1960, it's the oldest family owned Mexican restaurant in Reno. A throwback to the early 1960s, the decor in this cozy restaurant hasn't changed much, with sombreros, mariachis and other Mexican decor. Owner Gerald Montoya also runs the kitchen, which dishes up the Steak El Borracho (a New York steak with special sauce, onions and bell pepper), the La Favorita (a combo of chile relleno, enchilada and taco), and a shrimp menu 13 items long (Montoya uses the biggest shrimp he can get). Why El Borracho, which translates to "the drunk"? Back in the day, the bar at El Barracho was pretty happening, and still draws the faithful, and a steady college crowd when school's in session.
