So I finally get to try Ernie's. I just happen to be out in Sparks by the Nugget for an appointment. Wow, this is waay out here on Vista. But I found it, good thing somebody mentioned it was part of a gas station. I got there later in the afternoon and there was no crowd or anything. The place is a newish looking building attached by a hallway to the adjoining gas station. I was going to order just the special for $4.49, but I saw for .49 cents more you can get extra large fries and drink. So OK that's what I went for. Looks like 2 young cute guys run the place. They asked my name to put on the order. This is one of those times I use a different name cause too many people screw up Kara...its like Karen, or Carrie...so I just use Lisa. I forget sometimes when they call Lisa and it takes me a second to remember that's me!
I was given the 32 oz drink cup....that's way too big for any normal person. When the food arrived, the fries were in a cardboard basket inside a paper sleeve. The burger was wrapped tight in paper. I always look forward to the first bite, cause that's when the taste buds are primed and its all exciting...like that first kiss with someone new! In this case it was a hamburger. I was not disappointed. The bun was well toasted so it didn't collapse on me and the meat , although only a 1/4 pounder, tasted really good, it had that charbroiled taste that went well with the lettuce and tomato and pickle. The fries were great too. They had just the right amount of greasy taste, you know, like when you eat something tasty but you know its probably bad for you! The salt, pepper and condiment's are all up by the self serve soda machine. The interior was very clean and I can't think of anything bad to say about the place. The price is right, cheaper then In and Out but better. I would not classify this as a fast food hamburger joint, but mid level, cooked to order. I just wish there was an Ernie's in South Reno! The food is really good but unless I'm out this way, meaning like going to the UPS center, I most likely will not drive this far out. But if you live or work out this way, this is a super good and super value hamburger.
