Snoop Dogg is many things — a legendary gangsta rapper, a reality show star and an entrepeneur.
By the time he hit the stage late Thursday night at the Grand Sierra Resort following an almost-two-hour long intermission after opener Stephen Marley, he tried his hand at another role: crowd pleaser.
"For waiting so long," he said, turning to one of his posse members on stage, "pour 'em some of my favorite drink." His friend then sprayed the crowd with a bottle of champagne before Snoop launched into "Gin & Juice," one of the hits from his 1993 debut album "Doggystyle."
The delay was announced as being due to a long drive for Snoop and his crew from California and the crowd seemed to get restless at times. But once the man known for popularizing the catch phrase suffix "-izzle" appeared, all was forgiven.
Snoop followed up with many of his own hits from the past decade-and-a-half including "I Wanna Love You," "That's That," "Drop It Like It's Hot," "Who Am I (What's My Name)" and a medley of "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" and "B Please", while the all-ages crowd jumped around in the front of the stage and throughout the Grand Theatre.
He gave a shout-out to the late rapper Tupac Shakur by singing his part of "2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted."
During the hour-long, 16-song set, Snoop also managed to invite about two dozen young women on stage as he serenaded them to "Sensual Seduction."
He also put his own twist on "Jump Around", the House of Pain hit.
Stephen Marley, the Jamaican reggae singer who is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, led a spirited start to the show with songs from his 2007 solo album "Mind Control." He also channeled his late father by singing such reggae classics as "Jammin'" and "Buffalo Soldier."
