The Matrix (1999)
When you were watching "The Matrix," you probably weren’t thinking, “Hey, this reminds me of 'Alice in Wonderland!'” But the directors were. In at least one interview they admitted to drawing on the themes of the story for their film. Consider the choice Neo makes to follow the white rabbit or Morpheus’s quote about whether to take the red pill or the blue pill (“You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes”) and Neo’s continuing questioning of his identity and reality and you’ve got the makings for a contemporary version of the story.
