Achievement in directing
Kathryn Bigelow, “The Hurt Locker”
Bigelow is the first woman to win the Oscar as best director, and only the fourth woman to ever receive a nomination. She also is the first woman to win the DGA award (a prize that traditionally lines up with Oscar).
She was competing with ex-husband James Cameron, director of "Avatar," who executive produced her film "Point Break" and produced and wrote her film "Strange Days."
