Why rule the world when you could be Miss Universe
Everyone may joke about world peace, unhealthy amounts of hair spray and plastered smiles—but these women are more than just universal Barbies from around the world walking in bikinis (maybe not Miss South Carolina, Miss Teen USA 2007). Last year's winner Stefania Fernandez traveled as a global advocate for HIV/AIDS education and awareness and has passed on the reign to Miss Universe 2010 Jimena Navarrete (Mexico).
Miss Mexico, 22-year-old Jimena Navarrete, stole the show in an elegant, single-strap red gown—in which she said the color represented Mexico's bicentennial independence anniversary. Hosted by Bret Michaels and Natalie Morales (NBC's "Today" show), the 59th Annual Miss Universe Pageant was brought to you live from Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
With over 80 countries participating, contestants were judged in three categories—swimsuit, evening gown and interview. Check out the newly crowned Miss Universe 2010 and some of her runner-up ladies—and no, not that kind of 'check out.'
