Today definitely was not a dog day of summer for movie star Uggie.

The canine star of the Oscar-winning film The Artist was very busy in Hollywood putting his paw prints in cement outside Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

The event also marked the retirement of Uggie from films.

He had some doggie pals along for support: Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.

After getting some human help placing his paw prints in cement, Uggie dipped them in ink and put his mark on DVD and Blu-ray copies of The Artist (on sale starting Tuesday). The Associated Press reports that the dog was visibly shaken during much of the event, noting the nerve-wracking combination of the large crowd and the oppressive summer heat. After the ceremony, Uggie and entourage retreated inside the theater, adds the wire service.
