Though Brittany Murphy died tragically in 2009, the 8 Mile actress will still be seen on the big screen in a new film.
Murphy's final work, the psychological thriller Something Wicked, completed its post-production work this week and is seeking a distributor, according to Merchant Films. Filming had wrapped months before she died, but final production was delayed due to her death, according to a company statement.
Murphy plays the moral center in Something Wicked, which is about "obsession and young love gone wrong," according to the release. It is directed by Darin Scott and also stars Shantel VanStanten (TV's One Tree Hill) and Julian Morris (TV's ER and 24).
"Brittany pulled off one of the spookiest scenes in the movie," says producer and screenwriter Joe Colleran. "There's an important scene where her character is unraveling and she spent a long time getting ready and focused and went for it. Personally, I think it's one of the best scenes of her career."
Murphy's promising work in such films as Clueless and Girl, Interrupted had dwindled in the later years of her life. She was found dead in her Hollywood Hills home on Dec. 20, 2009 at age 32.
