Real fun, faux fur at Burner party Friday

Fur gets a discount at this rave, but they're not looking for the real thing

“In the very beginning, there was some concern, said Hi’R Entertainment’s Marcos Brito about the “Fur” party on Friday. “But it’s definitely a fake-fur event.”

The dance party at Grand Sierra Resort on Friday, Feb. 12, caters to Burners who won’t return to the playa for another six months — so you’re much more likely to see neon pink fur that doesn’t occur in nature rather than a controversy-courting mink coat.

Besides, calling the night “Faux Fur” or “Weird Clothing Party” wouldn't have been as catchy.

Donning fur of any sort will get you a $5 discount at the door, knocking the ticket price down to $20. If you're one of the first 50 people, it will save you another $5.

“We see any people walking in with any little bit [of fur], they’re getting the discount,” Brito said.

The night features a dozen electronic dance DJs in two different areas — an unusual feat for the casino’s normally undivided Grant Theatre.

The main “Faux” area is what the audience normally sees at a concert and features Jefr Tale and Stripe of the Root Society (the group behind the tri-dome at Burning Man), plus locals D6, the Rhino, Acure & Daniel and Miss Cooper.

The “Mink” room will be backstage, behind a dividing curtain, allowing attendees to see the cavernous staging area normally hidden from view during shows in the Grand Theatre.

This area has Amplified entertainment’s Jazzy Gems and Hi’R Entertainment’s FM Marc (Brito himself), as well as DTR, M.F. Ruckus, Formless and Simple, of LunchboxRadio.com. Anyone can move freely between the two zones.

The DJ sets are scheduled to last until 4 a.m., and the Grand Sierra has room discounts to persuade you to stay the night. Call 1-800-648-5080 to make a reservation.

And because this is Reno, don’t be surprised to see at least a small protest against the fictional atrocity of faux fur. Won't someone think of the mythical creatures?
