It’s Boreal Mountain Resort's turn to host skiers and snowboarders battling it out for cash, with the 3rd Rail Jam taking place all day Saturday.
The 3rd Rail Jam is named for its three-rail jam competitions for boarders and skiers but brings much more to the mountain with MC battles, DJs, graffiti art and parties.
For those drawn by the jam, entry is $20, with divisions for men, women and youths younger than 15 — winners take all. Rail jams begin at 3 p.m.
The event's creators, Timmy Grins and Pat Hession, have even been working with Boreal's terrain park guru Eric Rosenwald to perfect the contest course.
For the music side, Pigeon John will perform a free concert about 6:30 p.m., and a music video for Lam & Grins’ song “Fight to the Top,” featuring Pigeon John, will be filmed.
Pigeon John has a busy weekend, as he performs a day earlier in Reno with MURS and DJ Z-Trip.
Other events during the jam include a rap battle at 6 p.m., DJ performances and break dancing. Plus, there are giveaways from (get ready) Underarmor, Skullcandy, Kangol, POW Gloves, Launch Snowboards, Guerilla Fist Clothiers, Turbine Clothiers, Gravis, Anon, Smith Optics and Bern Helmets — and some of their newest products will be on display, too.
At 10 p.m., the party moves to Truckee at the FiftyFifty Brewing Co., 11197 Brockway Road. Be there for graffiti on models, a fashion show at midnight, DJs, drinks and more. Check the gallery for previous fun at FiftyFifty.
The 3rd Rail Jam kicked off 2009 in January in New Jersey with 4,000 people. Let’s see if we can do better.
