Inauguration Day Events

Drink and be merry on Jan. 20

January 14, 2009

After every presidential election, we roll around to Jan. 20 and get to experience the utter joy of an inauguration, but this time people seem just a little more excited than usual. Thus, celebrations from election night are spilling over into the new year as Barack Obama is sworn in as president of the United States.

Because most of us work at 8:30 a.m. on a Tuesday, here are some ways to celebrate with others, before or after. Know of other events? E-mail us at reno@metromix.com

Early morning option: Enter a raffle to watch Obama's inauguration with State Radio on their tour bus early on Jan. 20.

Politically poised State Radio to play for inauguration

Politically poised State Radio to play for inauguration

If you're down for a concert with political inclinations, check out this show. State Radio is from Boston and they are one of America’s most unsung rock bands. Imagine a Dave Matthews/Jack Johnson roots-rock-reggae vibe that often gets towed under by blasts of rock and punk, all while maintaining a strong sense of both melody and ethical politics. Tour mates Rebelution from Santa Barbara have a much stronger reggae influence in their alterno-pop sound. Tickets are $15 advance, $18 door.
