This weekly showcase of local talent is hosted by the Reno Music Project's Todd South. Admission includes food and drinks, and original music is encouraged. It entertained throughout 2009 at Maytan Music Center but is now looking for a new home.
Nominees
The weekly comedy open mic at 3rd Street on Wednesdays starts at a sliding time after 9 p.m. and certainly before 11 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome and the winner, determiend by the audience, gets a featured spot and longer set the next week, instead of the usual five minutes. Kinsie Damon hosts.
This weekly open mic event on Mondays attracts performers mostly of the music or poetic variety. Sign-ups are at 7:30 p.m. with performances at 8 p.m. Enjoy the varied performers from the coffee shop, the porch or the nearby Jungle Vino if you're looking for that sort of drink.
The Spoken Views open mic poetry night on the third Wednesday of the month showcases local spoken word artists and slam poetry. Nights usually have a featured poet and even a musical guest.
Jan. 20 features music by the Schizopolitans.
Sign up at 7:30 p.m. for five minutes on stage. Show is at 8 p.m., and entry is always free for those who want to perform.
A tad unpredictable, the open mic night at Zephyr on Mondays is open to poets and musicians of all stripes, and the outcome can vary tremendously. Sign-ups are at 9 p.m., with performances at 10 p.m. usually providing well over an hour of entertainment.
