And the winner is…
The Wal (Little Waldorf Saloon)
1661 N. Virginia St.
Reno, NV 89503Walk into the Wal, as the Little Waldorf Saloon is commonly known, and you will feel cozy and comfortable in this cabin-type restaurant and bar. From the floor to the ceiling, wood covers the area along with UNR gear, huge wood wagons, televisions tuned to sports channels and fliers promoting the restaurant’s next event. Located near the University, The Wal (established in 1922) is a favorite for students. Check out their wide variety of beers on tap or a unique shot such as a “Scooby Snack.” The restaurant has a nice crowd for lunch and is usually bustling on the weekends and during football season and always on Thursday (college) nights. The Wal also hosts special events such as trike races on Wednesdays.
Nominees
Archie's Giant Hamburges & Breakfast
2195 N. Virginia St.
Reno, NV 89503The atmosphere of Archie's is a cool duality. Downstairs looks like a '50s-style diner right out of the movie "Grease." Upstairs looks like a raw industrial studio space, with the steel rafters exposed and brushed metal walls, except there's 12 HD TVs, a pool table and an Internet jukebox. The place is great for some burgers, chicken wings, breakfast and that sort of thing. They've been doing it for 20 years.
Pub & Sub
1000 Ralston St.
Reno, NV 89503Being within walking distance of the University of Nevada, Reno explains the young student crowd you'll encounter at this pub and restaurant. With great food and drink deals as well as a large backyard for outdoor seating, Pub Sub is an ideal place to grab a meal and some beers with friends.
Wolf Den
1305 N. Virginia St.
Reno, NV 89503The Wolf Den is a sibling of the Little Nugget Diner in downtown Reno and brings with it the signature Awful Awful burger (plus a double version) and lots of other worthy monuments to grease, but wrapped in a blue package dedicated to the university it lives next to. There's a full bar for 21+ revelry but during normal meal hours it's open to all ages.
