The weather might be cooling down, but the Peppermill wants to heat up Reno’s nightlife with the addition of Edge, its new spot located in the South Virginia Street hotel-casino.

This boutique style nightclub shoots for glamour, starting with a dramatic staircase that leads up to the expansive main floor with 8,000 square feet to dance, drink, and lounge the night away. Edge masterminds Brian Kirgin and Chris Schiavone designed an extravagant look and layout for the nightclub with their combined experience of running the respective night spots at the Palms in Las Vegas and the Eldorado. That background is apparent in the attention to detail given to the look and feel.

"My Godfather was the late Dean Martin," said Schiavone, "and I want to bring back that class and excitement that surrounded the Rat Pack during the Ocean's Eleven era, and Brian is the man who wants to facilitate this."

Plush pink sofas line the periphery, while vintage gold frames contrast with the LCD screens they surround that broadcast sultry images throughout the club. This place oozes a sexy and seductive vibe and has all the usual club amenities for patrons.

Guests can kick back in one of the many VIP booths that surround the dance floor, or get out there to enjoy the sounds of DJs from Las Vegas, L.A., and our very own Reno-Sparks. If in need of refreshment, try a Skinny Biatch cocktail made from Stoli Raz and sugar-free Red Bull (Designed to keep people thin and awake). Or a group of friends, or even strangers, can pitch in for a giant glass of homemade punch served family style.

It’s opening on the cusp of winter, so it might not get much use immediately, but the Edge has an outdoor patio with mosaic fire pits, a waterfall down to the pool below  and sweeping views of Mount Rose. The club rests above the Peppermill's Bimini Steakhouse, and both are part of the brand new additions to the resort, not a renovation of some nightclub past.

Edge is throwing itself into the luxury nightclub arena, but not for the purpose of "clubbing" per se. Rather, it's designed as a lounge for young professionals, rather than just a large, loud dance floor. Reno and Sparks aren’t bursting with aspiring Vegas hot spots, but as the new kid, Edge still needs to set itself apart with more than mere novelty.

“We are focused on giving first class service to everyone, without the “stuck-up attitude” and ridiculous drink prices,” said Schiavone. “We hand-picked the staff after months of interviews and came up with a team that is dubbed 'the Elegant Underground.'”

The Peppermill is betting that the Edge’s distinctiveness in the market will come from the experience and style its creators and staff bring to the table, having served on the club front lines in Las Vegas. And for those living in the booming southern neighborhoods, the Peppermill might be a more convenient option than downtown clubs or those on the border with Sparks.

For those looking for a new scene, the opening is conveniently on Oct. 31, and the grand opening party is the Peppermill’s annual Halloween Skin and Scare Ball. The dress code will obviously be relaxed, so this is the time to throw on something revealing or wild to celebrate their launch.
