Great Basin taps old favorites for anniversary, benefit

Great Basin Brewing Co. in Sparks marks its 15th anniversary tonight and Wednesday with a celebration that benefits the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

For the occasion, the microbrewery asks that you bring five or more cans of food to donate to the Food Bank. Great Basin will give you a commemorative pint glass filled with your choice of Great Basin beer (Death by Chocolate Stout, Hop Head, Imperial Stout, Harvest Ale and more), and you keep the glass. Some of Great Basin's semi-retired beers will be poured for this event as well.

Don Darue, afternoon DJ on KTHX and host of the Saturday-morning "Risky Biscuit Hayseed Hoot," will record the comments of beer lovers and play them on the next Hayseed Hoot show.

The events begin at 5 p.m. both days. Great Basin Brewing Co. is at 846 Victorian Ave. Details: 355-7711 or www.greatbasinbrewingco.com.
